„Ukrainian Studies in Münster“

Interdisciplinary Research Centre

The academic network "Ukrainian Studies in Münster" (USiM) is an interdisciplinary association of researchers studying the historical, cultural and political space of Ukraine at the University of Münster in cooperation with the Centre for the Study of Conflict & Peace (CeCo) in Osnabrück.

Founded in 2023, the initiative connects academics from ten disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The network's aim is to expand Münster as a centre for research on Ukraine, strengthen its international networking, support young academics and transfer Ukraine-related knowledge to politics, business and civil society in North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany.

The University of Münster is already a dynamic and internationally well-connected centre for Eastern European research. Institutionally, the region of Eastern Europe and the focus on Ukraine at the University of Münster is supported by the Institute of Slavic Studies, the Department of Eastern European History, the Chair of Eastern Church Studies and Ecumenics and the Institute of Jewish Studies. In addition, there are numerous points of contact and cooperation with Ukraine in early modern and art history, law (media law and commercial law), sociology, Byzantine studies and with the Center for the Study of Conflict & Peace (CeCoP) in Osnabrück.
