Bodenökologische Untersuchungen in der Arktis und Subarktis

Ziel der bodenökologischen Untersuchungen in der kanadischen Arktis (Baffin Island) und der finnischen Subarktis (Lappland) ist es, die Wechselwirkungen zwischen den abiotischen Bodeneigenschaften, der bodenbiologischen Aktivität und der Vegetation zu erfassen. Die Untersuchungen auf Baffin Island werden im Rahmen eines Projektes zum Einfluß des Tourismus auf arktische Ökosysteme in Zusammenarbeit mit "Agriculture Canada" durchgeführt. In der finnischen Subarktis liegt - neben der Untersuchung von organischen Böden ("Palsen") unter Bodenklassifikationsaspekten - ein weiterer Schwerpunkt der Arbeiten auf dem Einfluß der Kryoturbation auf die Pedogenese, insbesondere auf die Podsolierung. Die Podsolstandorte werden in Kooperation mit dem Geological Survey of Finnland untersucht. Durch die Zusammenarbeit in internationalen Arbeitsgruppen, der International Permafrost Association und der International Soil Science Society, die sich mit permafrostbeeinflußten Böden beschäftigen, gehen die Ergebnisse in die Entwicklung einer circumpolar anwendbaren Bodenklassifikation für Cryosols ein.
