Nanomembranes in good shape: From vortex dynamics to single cell analysis
Prof. Dr. Oliver G. Schmidt, IFW Institute for Integrative Nanosciences Dresden

Nanomembranes are thin and flexible. They can be tailored out of almost any material and are shapeable
into almost arbitrary 3D geometries. The ability to form hybrid nanomembranes into tubular structures is
particularly attractive and has opened new perspectivies in physics, chemistry and engineering.
The talk will first review the formation principles of tubularly shaped nanomembranes and then concentrate on novel functionalities and device concepts. The subjects will range from vortex dynamics in open
superconductor tubes and novel hybrid electronic devices to single cell analysis in lab-in-a-tube systems
and smallest men-made jet engines.
