Organisation

The Verein Studierende der Geowissenschaften in Münster e.V. was founded in 1966 under the name Verein der Geologie-Studenten in Münster e.V. with the aim of publishing a journal under its own responsibility. Under the name Münstersche Forschungen zur Geologie und Paläontologie, short MüFo, a large number of dissertations of the Institute of Geology and Palaeontology of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster were published in this way. Within a short period of time, not only dissertations but also articles of the individual working groups of the institute as well as topic-related volumes were published and successfully distributed.

The aim of the association is to promote the geological sciences in order to deepen the understanding of the position of geoscientists in the environment. Furthermore, the student support of scientific work and education at the Institute of Geology and Palaeontology is one of the tasks of the association.

Even after more than 50 years of existence of the association, 1 to 2 volumes per year are published continuously. With the journal MüFo, which is produced in cooperation with the Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, the association continues to successfully distribute dissertations, postdoctoral theses and articles from all subject areas of the earth sciences. Particularly noteworthy are the four fossil volumes from the series "Fossils of Westphalia", which are now in their 8th edition and are equally popular with geologists, geoscientists and fossil collectors.
