2010-11-23 Tibor Szilvási Receives NRW Young Scientist Award 2011
The Graduate School of Chemistry has honored Tibor Szilvási with the NRW Young Scientist Award 2011 in the category chemistry. The award ceremony took place on 28. November 2011 in the Akademie der Wissenschaften in Düsseldorf, together with five other awardees honored in the network of NRW Research Schools (see program).

Tibor Szilvási was born in Hungary, and he is currently a PhD candidate at the George A. Olah Graduate School of Chemistry at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees at the same university in 2009 and 2011.

The honored work was published in: T. Szilvási, T. Veszprémi, Dalton Trans. 2011, 40, 7193-7200. The reaction mechanism of white phosphorous with silylenes was studied with Density Functional Theory and ab initio computational methods. An unusual accelerating influence of bulky groups on the reactivity was found which is consistent with experimental data.
