Verein für Westfälische Kirchengeschichte e.V. (Society for Westphalian Church History)

The society for Westphalian Church History focuses on researching Westphalian Church History and supports further scientific research. It tries to foster interests in Church History in all parts of our modern society and for all people. Regarding daily church life, it deals with knowledge about local and regional history that influenced all people at the time, an aspect that this society tries to address. One goal is to support research of important content aspects, as well as to provide counselling and criticism during the research process.

In 1897, the “Verein für Westfälische Kirchengeschichte e.V.“ was founded in Hagen. Originally, it was a Protestant society and limited to the county “Mark”. After a while, it was active across the whole Westphalian region and after the Second World War, even Catholic members were allowed to enter, and Catholic topics were included in the discourse

Once a year, there is the official day of Westphalian Church History.
