What can you see in the movie?

Part 1: Particles in a vortex

This Clip shows a part of a numerical simulation of a turbulent flow.

Author: Anton Daitche

Teilchen im Wirbel
Domains

Part 2: Self-organized domains that are made of dissipative solitons

Self-organized patterns made of self-organized dissipative solitons.  In many respects, these objects exhibit particle-like behaviour. Such localized solitary structures are observable in the luminescence radiation distribution of the discharge plane of a homogeneous planar gas-discharge system.

Part 3: Turbulent Flow

Author: Michael Wilczek

Part 4: Travelling dissipative solitons and their annihilation by collision

Self-organized patterns made of self-organized dissipative solitons.  In many respects, these objects exhibit particle-like behaviour. Such localized solitary structures are observable in the luminescence radiation distribution of the discharge plane of a homogeneous planar gas-discharge system.
