Book Studies Workshop, 16-18 December 2019
The latest Book Studies Workshop, again carried out in cooperation with the Universiteit Leiden, took place from the 16th to the 18th of December, 2019, at the Landhaus Rothenberge in Wettringen. The Workshop gave participants from both the 'Book and Digital Media Studies' programme at Leiden and the English Department of the WWU Münster the opportunity to exchange knowledge and discuss themes related to book studies.
The presentations were as diverse as one could expect from a book studies workshop. One talk dealt with the diplomatic networks of the 17th century press, another with the publication of Manga in Europe, and the workshop ended with a presentation about 'Algorithmic Poetry'. Despite the range of topics, there were some overlapping questions and problems that became apparent. In a final discussion, problems of ever-growing digitization and the struggles of finding source materials were debated.
The program also included time for several extra curricular activities. The traditional walk through the Wettringer landscape and the guided city tour on the 18th were blessed by good weather. It was also possible to show our guests the Chair of Book Studies' Hinman-Collator and make time for a tour of the newly re-opened bible museum.
