Regulations for the Department Library of the English Seminar
Books from the reference library may be borrowed over the weekend. Borrowing is reserved for students of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU) upon the presentation of a valid student identification card.
Short-term borrowing for out-of-house copying is also allowed. Users from the WWU must present a valid student identification card; users from outside must present a valid identification card. In both cases, borrowing is limited to a maximum of five books for a maximum of two hours.
In the semester holidays, students from the WWU may borrow a maximum of five books overnight (from 13:00 to 12:00 the next day).
The following books may not be borrowed: bibliographies, books from the sample library (Musterbibliothek) or from the quick reference collection (Handapparat), reference works, newspapers, books designated as “sekretiert,” microfilms, or books from the semester reserve collections (Semesterapparaten). Intakes in process of the library administration may not be borrowed as well.
Books designated as “sekretiert” are available upon request for use exclusively within the library.
Rare books (Libri Rari) can only be viewed at the library administration office (Core Hours: Monday – Friday, 10:30-12:00).
Exam candidates with appropriate written certification may borrow books overnight (from 15:00 until 12:00 the following day) during the semester. During the semester holidays, exam candidates with appropriate written certification may borrow books for a week (from 11:00 until 12:00; for example, 11:00 on Monday until 12:00 the following Monday). Exam candidates may also extend the term of their loan once.
The library reserves the right to recall a book at any time.
Doctorial students of
Books for practical school trainings from the subject group “didactic” (D - 7.) may be borrowed for up to one week.
All borrowed books must be returned within the stipulated time. Exceeding the allowed time limit will result (in accordance with the Hochschulbibliotheksgebührengesetz) in fines.
Schedule of overdue fees
1-10 days: € 2.00 per book
11-20 days: € 5.00 per book
21-30 days: € 10.00 per book
31-40 days: € 20.00 per book
After the thirtieth day, borrowing privileges will be revoked. After the fortieth day, the English Seminar reserves the right to take further measures involving the engagement of the University Management (Rektorat).
Conduct in the Library
Coats, jackets, bags, and so forth are to be shut in the deposit lockers (located on the ground floor) prior to entering the library. The English Seminar assumes no liability for stolen items. Smoking, eating, drinking, and excessive noise are not allowed within the library. Maintaining order and tidiness within the library is compulsory. Books are to be replaced on the shelf after usage.
Liability for Loss and Damage
Lost books must be replaced within three months with a fully equivalent copy of the lost item. If this requirement is not met, the duly authorized seminar director will impose a replacement fee or obtain a replacement at the cost of the responsible user. Damages to books, periodicals, or other library materials can be prosecuted.
Violations of the Library Regulations
Repeated violation of library regulations may result in a temporary or permanent exclusion from library use. All responsibilities arising from these Library Regulations remain in effect after the end of studies; this includes any bans or limits upon borrowing privileges or library use.
The rules and regulations of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster apply within the English Seminar. Additionally, and insofar as the rules and regulations of the English Seminar and the University do not stipulate otherwise, the Library Regulations of the University and Regional Library also apply.
