Welcome to the English Drama Group Münster

So who are we and what are we about?

In 1975, an Englishman named Paul Willin came up with the idea of bringing the English Drama Group Münster into being. The act succeeded, and since then the EDG has been “very much alive and kicking,” as we would say. For more than 30 years, the “Dramies” (as they sometimes call themselves when speaking German) have brought one or two productions to the limelight of the Studiobühne each year, featuring pretty much everything British, Irish and American theatre and poetry has to offer: Ayckbourne, Stoppard, Hampton, Ravenhill, Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker, Thorton Wilder, Monty Python, Saturday Night Life, a musical version of Frank L. Baum’s Wizard of Oz refreshed by Marx Brothers, W.C. Fields etc. with own lyrics and music, the world premiere of a previously unpublished play by Aldous Huxley and of course, every now and then, a bit of Shakespeare.

During this long period of time, the group has of course always been made up of various Anglophiles and theatre enthusiasts, with a bucnh of people who have stuck with it for 10, 15 or even more than 20 years. But not only students of English find their way to the English stage: medical doctors, economists, Irish housewives, chemists, teachers and television actors also help to bring the loyal EDG audience to storms of enthusiasm (hear, hear!). Yes, and Volker Pispers, too, took his first steps on stage with us.
