Checklist for applicants from non-EU/non-EEA countries

Please note the following requirements when applying for admission to a bachelor's or state examination programme at the University of Münster:

  1. You may only apply for admission if you hold a university entrance qualification.

  2. All applicants who wish to study at the University of Münster are required to have sufficient German language skills. You may send us your language certificate even after the application period has ended. Please inquire about the deadline for sending certificates by contacting the Student Admissions Office approx. four weeks prior to the end of the respective application period. If you do not yet have sufficient German language skills, you can acquire these in language courses.

  3. Non-EU/non-EEA candidates are required to apply for admission to all degree programmes offered at the University of Münster. Applications can only be submitted via our online Application Portal. This applies to first- and higher-semester enrolment in restricted and non-restricted subjects of study. You should make two print-outs of your online application as it may be helpful to have a separate print-out when you apply for a visa. Please read No. 7 in the checklist regarding other required documents and technical instructions.

    When applying for higher-semester enrolment in restricted-admission programmes, study places are only granted if capacity allows.
  4. If you are applying for enrolment at a higher semester, you can have your foreign university coursework and examinations recognised.

  5. Please note that applications for admission to the University of Münster are subject to certain deadlines.

  6. You may apply for up to three subjects which you should prioritise according to your wishes in the online application. The order of priority is binding.
  7. After submitting your application, you must send us your printed and signed online application together with all other required documents to the University of Münster. The following documents are required:

    • Proof of sufficient German language skills (see No. 2 in this checklist)

    • Complete curriculum vitae (CV)

    • Certificate of university entrance qualification, e.g. foreign secondary school-leaving certificate, and if necessary, a university entrance examination, official university transcript or certificate confirming you have passed the Feststellungsprüfung (assessment text) at a Studienkolleg (foundation course)

    • Signed print-out of your online application
  8. We require authenticated copies of all documents and certificates. You can have these authenticated at any public office which uses an official seal. These include agencies like municipal administrations, embassies, consulates and notaries. If your certificates are issued in a language other than German or English, please submit official translations of these in German, English or French.

  10. After you have been granted admission, you must officially enrol at the Student Admissions Office either in person or by post. In your letter of admission, which will be sent to you by post, you will find all necessary information regarding enrolment.
  11. As an enrolled student of the University of Münster, you are required to pay a semester fee each semester.
