 Advanced Methods in Digital Cartography

This course provides an in-depth exploration of advanced methods in digital cartography. Participants will receive a comprehensive introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the fundamentals of cartography. The course delves into the processing and representation of geographic information, combining theoretical concepts with practical applications.

Content

1. Introduction to GIS
   - Basics of Geographic Information Systems
   - Data structures and sources in GIS
   - Analytical methods in geographic data processing

2. Introduction to Cartography
   - Cartographic principles and design
   - Selection and processing of map data
   - Symbolization and color usage

3. Open Data and Commercial Data
   - Utilization of freely available geographic data (Open Data)
   - Integration of commercial data sources
   - Data privacy and ethical considerations in handling geographic data

4. Map Creation in 2D and 3D
   - Techniques for creating two-dimensional maps
   - Introduction to three-dimensional cartography
   - Visualization of geographic information in 3D

5. Animations
   - Creation of animated maps
   - Dynamic representation of spatial changes
   - Use of time in cartography

Practical Implementation
The knowledge acquired in the lectures will be practically applied in accompanying exercise sessions. Participants will employ various GIS methods to solve specific tasks and work on a final project. Emphasis will be placed on the integration of the conveyed content.

Interactive Discussion
The results of the exercise sessions and the final project will be discussed in open forums with all participants. This fosters the exchange of ideas, the refinement of solution approaches, and allows for a profound reflection on the applied methods.

This course offers an excellent opportunity for students and professionals to elevate their skills in digital cartography to an advanced level and explore innovative approaches in the processing and representation of geographic information.
