Münster University’s Professor Frank Glorius receives Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award

Recognition for research undertaken in the field of organic chemistry

A major honour for Frank Glorius: the Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster has been accorded an Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The award is conferred for outstanding achievements in organic chemistry and is worth $45,000, of which $40,000 may be used for research purposes at the recipient’s own discretion.

Frank Glorius has been at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster since 2007. His work is focused primarily on new catalytic processes for producing important organic molecules. Just recently, he and three co-workers published a study in the "Science" journal on a new method for synthesizing fluorinated molecule rings.

The ACS was founded in New York in 1876 and has 157,000 members, making it the largest scientific society in the world. Every year since 1986, the Society has conferred an Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award on ten chemists. So far, there have been only three German scientists among the recipients, most of whom have been American. The award will be presented in Boston in August 2018.
