---+!! Setting up the Wireless-LAN under Windows XP

---++ Preconditions
The necessary preconditions for the use of the Muenster University WLAN are a ZIV user ID and a password for network access. You can get a user ID at the ZIV ([[https://www.uni-muenster.de/ZIV/en/MeinZIV/index.html][Mein ZIV]]), or from an event assistant for the duration of the event. The password for network access can also be set up at [[https://www.uni-muenster.de/ZIV/en/MeinZIV/index.html][Mein ZIV]].

---++ Setting up wireless-LAN-connection
Choose _Start -> Settings -> Network connections -> Wireless network connections_

Choose the icon _wireless network connections_ and click _View available wireless networks_ (image 1) on the left.

Click _Change advanced settings_ (image 2) on the left.

Choose the entry _Internet protocol (TCP/IP)_ and click _properties_ (image 3).

Activate the options _obtain an IP-Address automatically_ and _obtain  DNS server address automatically_ and click _OK_ (image 4).
You will now get back to image 3. There click the tab _wireless networks_.

Click _Add_ (image 5).

As _network name (SSID)_ enter __uni-ms__ (image 6).

Choose _WPA 2_ as the type of the __network authentication__ (image 6). If _WPA 2_ is not available, either your wireless-LAN-card or the driver does not support it. Try to update the driver or get newer hardware. *Use of the wireless-LANs is not possible, if your driver or your wireless-LAN-card do not at least support WPA 2.*

Adjust the _data encryption on __AES__ (image 6). From 12.03.2013 forward our hotspots support only AES.

Now click the tab _authentication_ (image 6).

As _EAP type_ choose __Protected EAP (PEAP)__ (image 7).

Deactivate the option _authenticate as computer when computer information is available_ (image 7).

Deactivate the option _authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable_ (image 7).

Then click _properties_ (image 7).

Deactivate the option _Validate server certificate_, _Enable Fast Reconnect_, _Enable Quarantine checks_ and _Disconnect if server does not present cryptobinding TLV_ (image 8).

Click _configure_ (image 8). Please make sure that you choose the entry _Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)_ from the menu _Select Authentication Method_.

Deactivate the option _Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)_ (image 9).

Click _OK_ (image 9). Now you get back to image 7.

Click the tab _connection_ (image 7).

Activate the option _Connect when this network is in range_ (image 10).

Click _OK_ (Bild 10). Now you get back to image 5. There you will find a new entry in the menu _preferred networks_ (image 11).

Click _OK_ (image 11). Now you get back to the window _wireless network connection_ (image 2 respectively image 12).

---++ Connecting to wireless LAN

When a wireless-LAN-cell is within range, the window will look like the one in image 12.

It is possible that on your server there is still a connection to the wireless-LAN with the network (SSID) _Funk-Hoer1_ eingerichtet. *The wireless-LAN _Funk-Hoer1_ will no longer operate. It should therefore no longer be used.*

When the server has set up a connection with the wireless-LAN-cell (network name _uni-ms_) you will see an information window in the task menu below (popup, image 13).

Click the information window. You will now be asked to enter your user ID (image 14).

As _user name_ and _password_ enter your central user ID and your *password for network access* (not the central standard password). Do *not* enter a _registration domain_.

Then click  _OK_ (image 14). User name and password will now be checked. If the connection has been set up successfully, you will again see an information window (Popup, image 15).

This completes the installation of the wireless-LAN connection and you are connected with the wireless-LAN.

---++ Resorting to a bag of tricks (delete user information)

Once the user information for WPA has been entered into the operating system Windows XP, it will save this information and you will not need to enter them again. Normally this is seen as a convenient feature. Unfortunately, Windows does not offer the choice to deactivate the saving of the information, and sometimes one would like to be able to delete user information. In order to do that, you need to delete a key in the registry. 

The key that can be deleted is:<br>
_HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Eapol\UserEapInfo_ <br>

The key can also be deleted with the following batch-file.<br>
