Instruction for secure email receipt with Outlook Express

Preliminary remark

This instruction will show you how to configure Outlook Express so that you are secure against any unauthorized reading of passwords and emails. We assume that you are already checking your emails via Outlook Express. Only the checking of the emails will be secured. The sending emails will remain unsecured.

Configuration

In the main screen open the pull-down-menu »Extras« and choose the item »Accounts«.

• Open the dialog “edit accounts”:
  

Choose your email account. It may be named differently than the one in this example. Then click »edit«.

• Go to „Settings“:
  

In the opening window choose the menu item »Advanced« and mark the field »This server requires a secure connection«. With this choice the port number given above that field will simultaneously change from 110 to 995.

• Activate SSL:
