As part of their project days, on June 10, 2026, about 20 students from the Anne Frank High School visited the Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences (IfS) together with their teacher and IfS alumna Jenny Fastnacht.

During their visit, the participants gained fascinating insights into the research and practical applications of sports psychology. Dr. Stephanie Bünemann and Birte Brinkmöller from the Department of Sport and Exercise Psychology presented current topics and areas of application in their field and provided an overview of their scientific work.

A particular highlight was the visit to the Open Lab. There, under the guidance of Meike Gerlach, the students were able to experience sports science methods and research approaches firsthand and gain practical experience.

The program was rounded out by a guided tour of the campus, during which the guests were able to get a sense of the university environment and everyday student life.

The following day, the students continued to apply what they had learned during their visit as part of their project days. They developed their own methods manual with strategies for managing stress and explored different types of motivation in a school setting.

The Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences is delighted by the students’ keen interest and the successful exchange between the school and the university. Such visits offer the opportunity to learn about academic topics in a practical way and to gain early insights into university studies and research.
