WWU-internal fundings

Student Research Funding

Research projects are not only something for researchers who have already completed their studies. It is also possible for students to conduct their own research ideas! The University of Münster supports them with two funding programmes:

Santander Mobility Fund

*New: WWU doctoral students can apply now!*

Students can apply for the funding of resarch visits (abroad), which gives them the opportunity to research at guest institutes (up to three months) or attend conferences as part of their studies or final thesis. In this way, students can establish contacts with renowned research groups or gain first conference experience. After the stay, students present their results and experiences in a format of science communication which they have proposed in their application.

The Santander Mobility Fund is financed by “Santander Universities“, a division of Santander Bank. Since 2013, "Santander Universities" has funded various projects for internationalisation as well as the promotion of junior researchers at WWU Münster.

Applications for the Santander Mobility Fund can be submitted at any time.

Student Research Projects

The programme " Student Research Projects " of the Rectorate of Münster University supports students in the conduction of (first) own research project during their studies. The programme supports projects that are initiated and carried out by students. The projects should be innovative and academically informed; ideally, projects initiate research cooperations. The programme enables the implementation of a wide variety of formats: Research stays (abroad), lab projects as well as (student) conferences, workshops or summer schools. It is important that projects are clearly distinguishable from one's doctoral, professional or academic pursuits.

The next deadline for draft proposals ends on 07 December 2022.

Please find more information the Student research projects here.

WWU Idea Lab: Topical Programs

The WWU's internal funding line "Topical Programs" will be permanently advertised starting 1 June 2021, i. e. applications may be submitted at any time. In addition to workshops, other formats and concepts are also eligible for funding.

UT-WWU Collaboration Grants

The Executive Boards of the universities of Twente and Muenster have expressed their mutual interest in stimulating research collaboration in fields where connections have already been made. Therefore three strategic collaboration grants are made available to perform joint research with potential for strategic results which will strengthen the international reputation and standings of both universities and allow access to new stakeholders (e.g. relevant international strategic networks, industrial and governmental parties) and third-party funding. Interested researchers from all areas of research at UT and WWU are invited to apply under this scheme.
