Lila Solnica-Krezel did a PhD in Oncology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States. This was followed with postdoctoral work in the lab of Wolfgang Driever at the Harvard Medical School. Displaying excellence in research, she started her own independent group as an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University in the Department of Molecular Biology. In 2010, she became Head of the Department of Developmental Biology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her research focuses on deciphering the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying vertebrate gastrulation using zebrafish as a model organism. Her lab is working on unraveling the effects of signaling pathways, such as Wnt/PCP, on developmental processes such as embryonic polarity, patterning, gastrulation movements and embryonic axis specification. Her research has provided valuable insight on the genetic origins of developmental defects, such as those resulting in miscarriages. Moreover, her lab also investigates the molecular regulation of tumor metastasis. In this regard, her research has uncovered striking parallels between the spread of tumors and gastrulation movements.

International führende Wissenschaftler – Pioniere der Zelldynamik und Bildgebung – stellen ihre jüngsten Erkenntnisse aus Grundlagenforschung und Klinik vor. Die Vorträge beginnen um 17.30 Uhr. Ab 17.00 Uhr besteht Gelegenheit, bei kostenlosen Snacks und Getränken Kollegen zu treffen und sich interdisziplinär auszutauschen. Die Vortragssprache ist Englisch.

Die Ringvorlesung ist ein Kooperationsprojekt des Exzellenzclusters "Cells in Motion" (CiM) und der Sonderforschungsbereiche SFB 629 "Molekulare Zelldynamik", SFB 656 "Molekulare kardiovaskuläre Bildgebung", SFB 1009 "Breaking Barriers", SFB/Transregio 58 "Furcht, Angst, Angsterkrankungen" und SFB/Transregio 128 "Multiple Sklerose".
