Stellenausschreibung

The Institute of Landscape Ecology and the Institute for Geoinformatics at the University of Münster, Germany, are seeking to fill the position of a

Research Associate
Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in
(salary level TV-L E13, 100%)

The position is subject to the approval of the third-party funds in the project “Spatio-temporal transferability of satellite-based AI-models”. The fixed-term position will start on 1 April 2021 and is limited to two years. The regular working hours are currently 39 hours 50 minutes a week.

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to work on a joint project of the research groups
„Remote Sensing and Spatial Modelling“ (Hanna Meyer) and “Spatio-temporal modelling Lab” (Edzer Pebesma). In this project, new methods for the analysis and improvement of the spatio- temporal transferability of satellite-based AI models will be developed, with the aim to assess and increase the quality of earth observation products through the use of AI techniques. The new methods will be integrated into software packages and made available in cloud-based processing chains.

The candidate should have a completed academic degree (German Diplom, master’s degree or equivalent) in geoinformatics / landscape ecology / geography, or a comparable programme. A completed doctorate is desirable but not mandatory. The candidate is expected to design, conduct and publish research in the project described above. Thus, a strong research focus on the application of machine learning strategies in the context of remote sensing is expected as well as an interest in the assessment of prediction uncertainties. Skills in programming (preferably in R) are required. Candidates should further demonstrate the ability to independently carry out scientific work, solve problems and publish results in scientific journals.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women.
