Stellenausschreibung

The Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany, invites applications for a

Research Associate
Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter
(salary level E13 TV-L, 100%)

This fixed-term post commences on or after 1 April 2020, and is available for a 3-year period. Currently, the regular full employment time is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. All posts can, as a rule, also be filled as part-time positions if there are no compelling work-related reasons against doing so.

Job applicants will work within the ERC project “HyDream” (Selective Arene Hydrogenation – A Dream Reaction) in the working group of Prof Frank Glorius. Practical experience with hydrogenation reactions and handling of lab autoclaves for high-pressure reactions are advantageous.

The following requirements must be met. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in organic chemistry and is expected to undertake experimental work in the laboratory. Experience in organometallic chemistry and its typical experimental techniques, e.g. working under protective gas atmosphere, conducting low-temperature experiments, is required. Broad know-how in various analysis and purification methods (LC, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry) is mandatory. Accomplishments such as high-impact publications during the PhD thesis or a first postdoctoral research position will demonstrate that the professional requirements can be met.

Fluent English language skills are required for communication within the group and the Institute; German language skills are not required. Furthermore, the candidate should have strong analytical, communicative and organizational skills; he/she should be proactive and flexible.

The Glorius group consists of around 30 co-workers, including masters students, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and three staff members. The Institute of Organic Chemistry provides an excellent environment for cutting edge research facilitated by fruitful exchange with other leading research groups and excellent infrastructure. All members of the Institute have access to all major analytical methods such as NMR, X-Ray, and mass spectrometry.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of the legal possibilities. We also welcome applications from candidates with severe disabilities. Disabled candidates with equivalent qualifications will be preferentially considered, unless certain project-related reasons apply.
