Stellenausschreibung

External advertisement for one to three doctoral research associate positions in the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany

1. Type of Position

Doctoral Research Associate
Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in (one to three positions available subject to funding availability)
Duration 36 months
Salary group TV-L E13, 67%

2. Start date To be agreed based on the applicants’ availability

3. Description
In light of increasing requirements regarding the efficiency of chemical syntheses, it is desirable to enable highly selective catalytic or stoichiometric processes with complex, unmodified substrates, thereby obviating the need to use protective groups or introduce activating/directing groups.
The van Gemmeren research group studies the design of ligands or reagents to enable reactions with a large potential for application in efficient organic syntheses that can currently not be induced and controlled in a satisfactory manner.
This position as a doctoral research associate aims to further qualify the successful candidates, by supporting work towards their doctorate. This may involve participation in graduate studies within the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

4. Required Qualifications

  • a university degree (MSc or equivalent) with a focus on organic chemistry: a broad background knowledge in the areas of synthesis, catalysis, and ligand design is particularly desirable
  • experience with the required experimental techniques (working under protective gas, use of the standard purification techniques, etc.), as well as with the usual analytical methods (NMR-spectroscopy, mass-spectrometry, etc.). Laboratory experience involving transition metal catalysis, electrochemistry, and/or screening methodologies is particularly desirable
  • excellent command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • German language skills would be advantageous, but are not a requirement
  • good computing skills with proficiency in relevant software including MS Office and ChemDraw
  • a high intrinsic motivation to conduct academic research

5. Additional Information
Application documents should include a cover letter from which the applicants’ interest in this particular position can be understood, a curriculum vitae, an overview of the academic achievements (grades) at the time of application, contact details of potential referees, as well as any further documents considered relevant by the applicant. Please send your application, preferentially by e-mail, to the contact provided below.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of the legal possibilities. The University of Münster is committed to employing more staff with disabilities. Candidates with recognised severe disabilities who have equivalent qualifications are given preference in hiring decisions provided they are able to carry out the necessary project-related work.

6. Application deadline 15 March 2021
