Stellenausschreibung

The Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill a

Professorship in Animal Ecology
(W2, tenured)

effective from 1 April 2021

We are seeking an internationally renowned person with a career appropriate publication record to represent the field of animal ecology in the Institute of Landscape Ecology (ILÖK). The research focus of the successful candidate must be developed in fields such as global change, biodiversity or ecosystem functioning and services at community, ecosystem, and landscape levels. The candidate must also align with the Institute’s emphasis on field research. Research interests at the intersection with other ecological disciplines such as plant-animal, soil-animal, or water-animal interactions are welcome. Proven experience in ecological statistics and modeling would be beneficial. We also expect the new professor to take a leading position within the Center for Biodiversity and Applied Ecology that is planned to be founded soon in cooperation with citizen science partners.

The successful candidate is expected to teach in BSc and MSc programs in landscape ecology (environmental sciences). Specifically, in this context, sound taxonomical and field sampling skills across one or more groups of vertebrates and/or invertebrates, including ecological evaluation, are mandatory. In addition, we expect teaching activity in associated BSc programs (geography, geoinformatics). Proficiency in written and spoken German is not a prerequisite, but the candidate is expected to achieve a sufficient command of German within the first two years.

Prerequisites for the application are academic achievements made as a Juniorprofessor (assistant professor), in a Habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant fields in Germany or abroad.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of senior women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of legal possibilities.

The University of Münster is committed to employing more staff with disabilities. Candidates with recognised severe disabilities who have equivalent qualifications are given preference in hiring decisions.

Applications should be written in English, compiled into a single PDF-file and sent by email. The application must include a CV, academic transcripts, a list of publications and successfully raised funds, as well as research and teaching statements. Please also provide the names and email addresses of at least two academic referees. Applications must be received by 15 September 2020 and should be sent to the Dean of the Faculty (see email address below). Questions or requests for further information should be directed to Prof Norbert Hölzel (nhoelzel@uni-muenster.de).
