The Institute of Musicology within the Faculty of History and Philosophy at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the post of a
Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/ wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter
(salary Level E 13 TV-L, 100%)
within the long-term DFG (German Research Foundation) project “Corpus Musicae Ottomanicae (CMO): Critical Editions of Music Manuscripts from the Near East” (funded until September 2027)
This fixed-term post will preferably begin on 15 December 2019 and is initially available until 30 September 2021. Currently, the regular full (100%) employment time is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. The place of employment is Münster. All posts can, as a rule, also be filled as part-time positions if there are no compelling work-related reasons against doing so. There is no teaching load.
The scope of duties includes the autonomous participation in the transnotation and critical edition of Ottoman music manuscripts from the 19th century, with a focus on the instrumental and vocal repertoire handed down in Ottoman-written sources. The selected candidate will be required to work well in a team, to have a reasonable level of activity in the management of the project, and to become involved in the organization of project-related events and public relations work.
The following requirements must be met:
- a superior PhD or, in exceptional cases, a highly qualified master's degree in musicology with a focus on ethnomusicology
- good knowledge of Near Eastern music theory, of Ottoman notation types of the 19th century (Hampartsum notation, Western notation)
- advanced use of English in spoken and written form
- working knowledge of Ottoman script
The following are desirable:
- skills in working with notation programs (Sibelius)
- experience with the use of office programmes
- German language skills
Depending on the qualification of the applicants, the position can alternatively be split and filled with two research associates working 50% of the regular working hours, salary level 13 TV-L (wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/ wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter mit 50 % der regelmäßigen Arbeitszeit, Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L). In the case of non-doctoral associates, the intention to write a doctoral thesis is desirable.
The advertised position will begin with a training period in which the basic project-specific knowledge and skills will be imparted.
