This fixed-term post is available for three years, with the possibility of renewal. Currently, the regular working time for full employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. All posts can, as a rule, also be filled as part-time positions if there are no compelling work-related reasons against doing so.
The group of Prof Dr Finkemeier (go.wwu.de/agfinkemeier) is seeking a highly motivated and talented scientist with excellent skills in the identification of peptides and proteins using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry techniques (LC-MS/MS). The tasks include sample preparation, method development, instrument maintenance, as well as data acquisition (Q Exactive HF), data interpretation (using MaxQuant, Skyline, Proteome Discoverer, R, Perseus and others), and teaching and training of students. The successful candidate is expected to develop and implement new advances in technology and bioinformatics relevant to mass spectrometry-based proteomics and to coordinate the collaborative projects of the group. The candidate will develop their own research project within the scope of the research interests of the group, for example to unravel the functions of post-translational modifications for cell physiology and their modifying enzymes (e.g., Hart el. al. (2017) Mol Sys Biol).
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in biology or biochemistry with proven experience in operation and maintenance of nano-LC systems, acquisition of LC-MS data for peptides and maintenance of a mass spectrometry system (ideally Q Exactive). They should also have experience in using database searching algorithms for peptide identification, performing basic bioinformatics data analyses, and conducting protein purifications and basic biochemical techniques. Previous work on post-translational modification profiling and relative quantification of proteomes, including label-free, isotope dimethyl labeling and TMT, is beneficial. Also important are excellent organization, good interpersonal and effective communications skills, and the ability to work independently as well as on a team. Applicants should be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule. Excellent English and German language skills are required. International postdoc experience is also advantageous.
