Professional Discourse

This project deals with (primarily written) discourse produced in a professional context. The main emphasis is on business letters. Research is based on a database of 600 letters which are analyzed in terms of the linguistic realization of so-called 'face-threatening acts'. The corpus consists of three languages: native English, non-native English, and native Dutch.
