Foreign transfer or lateral entry into the Bachelor of Science Programme in Psychology

Foreigner applicants who are studying psychology in their home country but wish to transfer their studies to the University of Münster in Germany and students studying a different major who wish to change their course of studies to a B.Sc. in Psychology are considered Quereinsteiger  (lateral-entry candidates).

The admission proceedure for foreign/lateral entries takes place in two steps:

  1. Equivalency Check (Einstufung) by the Examinations Committee of the Department of Psychology for entry into a higher semester:
A written request for "Einstufung" is sent to the Prüfungsamt (Examinations Office) for Psychology (use this Form) along with an overview of your previous acheivements (Leistungsübersicht) and the relevant course decriptions (or a link to your university's online course catalogue). The examination chairperson determines the extent to which relevant stubject-requirements have already been fulfilled and makes a decision regarding the appropriate semester for admitting that particular student to the B.Sc. program in psychology.
  2. Application for a study place (in the delegated semester) over the Studierendensekretariat (online Portal):
The Studierendensekretariat is responsible for assigning students to those study seats in the B.Sc. Psychology program that are currently available for reassignment.

A successful equivalency check does not guaranty you a study seat, it only gives you the right to apply for one. The following requirements must be fulfilled in order to be granted equivalency (cf. Studienstrukturplan for the B.Sc. in Psychology):

! Please check for yourself whether or not your previous studies fulfill the requirements for equivalency before sending an application or requesting an equivalency check. You should only apply and send documents for equivalency if your own preliminary check appears sufficient.

! Please note: Students of psychology from other German universities who apply for a transfer to Münster (so-called Ortswechsler) are given priority by the Studierendensekretariat for free study places. However, it is not possible to predict your chances of success for admission in a higher semester. In the past, there have frequently been no seats available in the higher semesters for Quereinsteiger.

In the case that you would like to request an equivalency check, you must submit a written request to the examination chairperson and send this together with your Leistungsnachweise, transcripts of studies or other documents showing credits you have earned to the Prüfungsamt (Fach Psychologie).

Further Advice (important!)

Upon completing the equivalency check you may submit your application for admission to the university via the online portal (see step 2 above). Please understand that a preliminary examination of applications in advance of the regular application process is not possible. We ask that you respectfully refrain from making any such requests.
