Optoelectronic read out

The image which is coming out of the capillaries is consisting mostly of very few photons which have to be amplified so that they can be visualized by a device like a CCD.

The optoelectronic read out of the first prototype consists out of an out of shelf read out chain. It consists out of four first generation image intensifiers and one second generation image intensifier with a micro channel plate (MCP) where the main amplification of the image is produced. The first stage of this chain is consisting of an image intensifier with a high photon detection efficiency on the photocathode to detect most of the produced photons.

The second optoelectronic chain is consisting of a first generation image intensifier to demagnify the image and an EBCCD.
