It is sketched how Quantum Chromodynamics can be renormalized non-perturbatively in the framework of the lattice formulation using numerical simulations. As an application, I report on the determination of the renormalization group invariant mass of the strange quark in the quenched approximation of the theory, after its leading discretization errors have been removed.
