Structure of lichen polysaccharides from Xanthoria pari-etina and semisynthetic modification towards immunoactivating polymers

Mrashid/Hensel investigate polysaccharides from lichens, for which exact structural features and properties are not very well documented in literature. Using Xanthorina parientina, galacto- and glucomannans have been isolated, purified and investigated concerning their respective fine structure. In vitro cell culture studies for propagation of the lichen have been started (col. Giri), also for separation of fungus and algae. The studies are ongoing. The lichen-derived mannans have been used as substrates for α-mannosidase from Dolichos lablab seeds, purified and characterized by G. Kumar/Siva Kumar.
