Functional characterization of Glypican heparan sulfate proteoglycans in Sonic hedgehog biology

Current advances

Ortmann/Grobe aim at the characterization of Glypican/HSPG functions in Shh release and activation in vitro and possibly in vivo. She has already cloned all six vertebrate glypicans for co-expression with Shh, followed by the analysis of their possibly differential processing and bioactivities of released morphogens. This will be done in collaboration with Götte, Swamy and Suresh.
