Sustainability and Climate change can be regarded as the major task for the next centuries. Sustainability does not only have an ecological but also social, economic as well as political dimensions. Can democracy safeguard the ecological future of our planet? Is digitallisation having a positive effect on the ecological transformation or is or is it strengthening negative trends such as populism, hate speach and echo chambers? What is the role of supranational, national as well as local political actors in an ecological transformation? If the civil society becoming an important actor in the crisis of political parties? What kinds of governance style? Should it be more authoritarian centralized or more open and decentralized? Are individual rights contradicting efficient and effective crisis management? Finally these questions also lead to the role of the states in public service provision.
