This course targets primarily students enrolled in the teacher training program (Lehramt) for upper secondary schools. In this seminar, we will study the linguistic properties of several chosen varieties of English around the globe, using up-to-date digital learning materials which we will discuss and evaluate in class. Topics include the development of World Englishes, the description of chosen varieties of English on different levels of the language system (e.g. phonology, grammar, lexicon), and the question how global Englishes can be integrated into classroom teaching in German secondary schools.
