Description |
Synthesis of almost all materials that are used today involve different phase transformations. Often, the early stages of the phase transformations determine the subsequent development of the microstructure and the resulting macroscopic properties. Additionally, the functional properties of e.g. shape memory alloys, of modern TRIP steels or so-called "phase change" memory materials are given by the occurrence and the use of the corresponding phase transformations. The lecture will treat the basic thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of phase transformations in condensed systems and will discuss these issues in detail for selected examples. |
