After finishing her diploma in psychology at the University of Cologne (Title of the thesis “Death, Dissonance, and Distal Defense“), Dr. Lena Frischlich worked as research associate (post-graduate level) at the University of Cologne for the Institute of social psychology II: Media and communication (Prof. Gary Bente).
She has finished her cumulative dissertation on the role of existential anxieties in mediated social encounters in January 2016 (“Join me in death: Managing mortality salience via mediated social encounters”). Since 2011, Dr. Lena Frischlich studies the staging and effects of (extremist) online-propaganda and mediated counter-offerings.
Since July 2016, Dr. Lena Frischlich works at the Institute for Communication Science. First as post-doc in a project about the “recognition, proof and combating of covert propaganda attacks via online media” (PropStop), at the lab of Prof Dr. Thorsten Quandt. Since January 2018 she leads the junior research group "DemoRESILdigital- Demokratic resilience in times of online-propaganda, fake news, fear- and hate speech".
From 2020 to 2021 Frischlich worked as an interim professor for media change at the Ludwigs-Maximilian University in Munich. Since 2020 she is a member of the young college of the North-Rhine Westphalian Academy of Science and the Arts.
