Acceptance of and Trust in Virtual Reality Technology (working title)

    Supervisors

After the internet, virtual reality technology (VRT) is believed to be the next media sensation, potentially revolutionizing journalism, education, recreation, therapy, and many other fields. However, the main problem with VRT is that is not as widely used as expected, which might be associated with the perception of risk. Proposing this is due to a lack of trust, the dissertation explores factors influencing the acceptance of and trust in VRT. Experiments and survey approaches help understand which media and person characteristics contribute to or hinder the adoption of the medium. This leads to a better understanding of which societal role VRT will play in the future.
