Arnd Scheel (University of Minnesota) joins the cluster as a Münster Research Fellow. Arnd Scheel is internationally renowned for his discoveries of mathematical principles of self-organization, in particular the dynamics of patterns and waves in complex systems. Uncovering such principles, for systems across all scales and the sciences, Arnd Scheel has provided tools that, for instance, predict emergence and breakup of spiral waves, as they occur in cardiac arrhythmia. During his stay in Münster, Arnd Scheel focuses on pattern formation induced by growth and motion.

In 2009 he was awarded the J.D. Crawford Prize of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics for outstanding research in nonlinear science and in 2016 he received a Humboldt Research Award (Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation) for staying in Münster.
