The model theoretic notion of ampleness can be seen as an abstract characterization of projective space. In light of various complexes associated to the free groups it is therefore not surprising that free groups are ample in this sense. These are the first known examples of ample structures not arising from a field. In this talk, I will explain the notion of ampleness and sketch the proof of this result.
