Enriques manifolds are complex spaces whose universal coverings are hyperkahler manifolds. We give several examples, construct period domains, and establish a local Torelli theorem. The theory applies to various situations related to punctual Hilbert schemes, moduli spaces of stable sheaves, and Mukai flops.
