In the talk I will explain the relevance of Whitehead groups for A1-homotopy theory. First, I will sketch how homotopy invariance for Whitehead groups yields computations of A1-homotopy groups of algebraic groups. Then I will sketch the proof of homotopy invariance for Whitehead groups in the split case. If time permits, I will make a few remarks on the nonsplit case.
