I want to give a sort of survey of recent developments concerning exceptional sequences of line bundles on rational surfaces. My special focus will be on toric surfaces. After explaining briefly the terms 'toric' and 'exceptional sequence', I will present result from Lutz Hille and Markus Perling and some of my PhD thesis. As time permits I will indicate the connection between exceptional sequences and deformations as in a work in progress together with Nathan Ilten.
