Mathematics / Math. Modeling in Biology and Medicine

Based on experimental knowledge and findings for cellular processes during early development, on cell and tissue mechanics, for the dynamics of the cellular cytoskeleton, and on signalling and diffusion in cell organelles, mathematical models are set up and analysed with rigorous techniques from the theory of partial differential equations. With the help of these mathematical models essential features of such processes should be understood, and their qualitative behavior under varying experimental conditions should be identified. Ideally, proofs of principle for the functioning of such systems are obtained.
