  • Vita

    Malek Sharif received a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master degree in Middle Eastern History from the American University of Beirut. He holds a PhD in Ottoman History/Turkic Studies from the Free University of Berlin. He was a post-doctoral fellow of the working group “Modernity and Islam” of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin to conduct research in Istanbul on the municipal, hygiene and medical history of the Ottoman Empire. He also received the post-doctoral scholarship of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation for his extended research in Istanbul on the first Ottoman parliament. From 2008 until 2014 he was visiting assistant professor and lecturer at the American University of Beirut.
