A fungal spore has germinated and built infection structures to penetrate a plant leaf. The part of the fungus growing on the leaf surface contains chitin (green) in its cell wall, while the part growing inside the leaf contains chitosan (red) to hide from the chitin-triggered immune system of the plant.
