Hightech Underground 2008
The University of Münster presented modern technology at an impossible location: An old deserted pedestrian tunnel served as a high-tech exhibition hall. We demonstrated, how science will change our life in several years. The topics covered insights in fuel cell research, stem-cells, brain-research, nanooptics, research on internet consumer-behaviour and others. The exhibition took place from october 16th until 22nd, 2008, daily from 10 to 18h with free entry. The exhibition concept, planned by the research-transfer-unit of the university (Arbeissttelle Forschungstransfer, AFO), was awarded 2008 as "Ort im Land der Ideen".

Fuel Cell Applications and Components: Our exhibits are depicted below. The first is a glas of hydrogen-producing algae (courtesy of Prof. M. Hippler, University of Münster), the second is a commercially available toy car driven by a hydrogen-powered fuel cell, the third depicts examples of direct-flame fuel cells (courtesy of M. Horiochi, Shinko Electric Industries Co. Ltd., Japan), the next a PEMFC fuel cell stack (courtesy of D. Gerteisen, Fraunhofer ISE, Freiburg) and finally some fuel cell components (courtesy of D. Gerteisen, Fraunhofer ISE, Freiburg).

Movie on Mathematical Aspects on Fuel Cells: We produced a short information movie on mathematical aspects on fuel cell research. This was presented in the tunnel on a large 50'' display in non-stop mode.

We were available at the exhibition at distinct times for discussion with the visitors. (drinks were however only provided at the exhibition-opening).
The exhibition was quite successful with in total more than 1000 visitors during the few exhibition days. Several newspapers have reported about the event.
