Münster - most liveable city in the world

An ideal place for research and study
Münster has around 270,000 inhabitants and is an ideal place for research and study. Environmental protection and quality of life take centre stage here. In 2004 the city was awarded the title of "Most Liveable City in the World" by the United Nations Environment Programme.

Green lung
Münster is a green city with many parks and tree-lined avenues. The five-kilometre long Promenade encloses the city, running along the historical municipal borders and making anywhere in the city easy to reach by bike. Indeed, Münster is known as Germany’s bicycle capital.

Relax by the water
Münster’s Lake Aa is near the city centre and an ideal place for taking a walk, jogging or sailing. This is also where the "all-weather zoo", as well as a variety of restaurants, can be found. Münster’s harbour area with its bars and leisure facilities is also a favourite meeting place.

Historic City Centre
The city centre with the Prinzipalmarkt, St. Lambert’s Church and the historicTown Hall are ideal places for a stroll. There are also a lot of bars and restaurants here. Saturdays offer an opportunity to buy fresh local food on the traditional market on Cathedral Square (Domplatz).

Lots of culture on offer
Theatre performances, variety shows, live concerts, a stroll though a museum, a visit to the cinema, readings - as far as culture goes, Münster has something for everyone, young and old. After a hard day’s work it’s wonderfully easy to switch off and relax.
