Welcome Week

At the beginning of each semester there is a Welcome Week for all exchange students. In addition, a tutoring programme helps exchange students to get to know the city and the university. Regular free time activities provide opportunities to meet both German and international students.

Health insurance

You need adequate health insurance before you can enrol at Münster University. Students who are nationals of EU countries or of countries belonging to the European Economic Area must bring their European health insurance card with them when they enrol in order for their health insurance to be recognized in Germany. Students from countries outside Europe must take out additional health insurance in Germany, which costs around €350 per semester (six months) for students.

Liability and accident insurance

Please check whether your liability and/or accident insurance is also valid in Germany. Insurance cover is often valid only for a limited period in other European countries and is no longer effective in the case of a longer period of study abroad.

Social services contribution and semester travel ticket

All students, including ERASMUS students and exchange students, must pay a social services contribution (Sozialbeitrag) in each semester. This money goes towards financing social facilities at Münster University as well as the semester travel ticket. This ticket allows all students from Münster University to use buses, trams and regional trains in North Rhine-Westphalia free of charge.
