Applications and enrolment
Anyone wishing to come to Münster on an exchange programme has to go through a certain procedure. The necessary steps are as follows:
Nomination
First, your home university has to nominate you for an exchange stay in Münster.

Applications
If you have been successfully nominated to study on an exchange programme, you will then have to fill out an application form online. The link to this portal will be sent to you by the International Office at Münster University.
The printout of the completed online form is your official application form, which has to be signed by the exchanges coordinator at your home university. Once it is signed, please send the form to the International Office:

Admission
The International Office at Münster University sends out notifications of admission by post around ten weeks before future guest students arrive. This notification of admission is the official document entitling the recipient to study at Münster University.
Visa (does not apply to ERASMUS students)
No one coming to Germany on an ERASMUS exchange needs to apply for a visa – unless he/she comes from Turkey. Students from all other countries need a visa. A study visa can be applied for at the German Embassy upon presentation of the notification of admission.

Please note that you must apply for your visa in person at a German Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

It is important to apply for your visa as early as possible, as there can be a waiting time of several months in some countries. The fee for a visa is 60 euros.

Furthermore, citizens of Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea and the United States of America can also get their visa after they arrive in Germany. You get a residence permit from the Foreigners Registration Office of the City of Münster.

Enrolment
Enrolment at Münster University takes place after your arrival, at the beginning of the semester. The enrolment date is given on the notification of admission sent to you by the International Office of Münster University.
The following documents are needed for enrolment:
• Notification of admission
• Passport or Identity Card
• Certificate of matriculation at home university
• Evidence of medical insurance
