Information on obtaining a doctoral degree at Münster University
In many occupations a doctoral degree is a requirement for being hired. Depending on the subject, obtaining a doctoral degree takes between two and five years. Before starting, however, you have to apply for your doctoral studies and to enrol. There are also special deadlines and requirements to be observed.

As far as doctoral courses are concerned, a distinction is made between two groups of applicants:

- Individual doctorate: The University of Münster provides opportunities for students to work on their own individual doctorate in one of the University’s departments.

- Structured doctoral work: Münster University enables graduates to gain their doctorate in a structured programme, for example in a graduate school.
