Prof. Reinhard Kurth
Prof. Reinhard Kurth was elected to Münster University Council in March 2008. He was born in Dresden in 1942 and studied medicine, molecular biology and biochemistry at the Universities of Erlangen/Nürnberg and Tübingen. He took his PhD in Erlangen in 1968 and was made a professor in Tübingen in 1976.

He was the director of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institute in Langen, near Frankfurt/Main, and then, from 1996 to 2007, of the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin, the central government institution in Germany for the monitoring and prevention of illnesses. He has won numerous prizes and awards worldwide, including an honorary doctorate in 2006 from the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin.
