Dr. Johannes Georg Bednorz
Dr. Johannes Georg Bednorz has been a member of the Münster University Council since March 2008. He was born in 1950 in Neuenkirchen in the district of Steinfurt and studied chemistry and mineralogy at Münster University.
Dr. Bednorz was made a professor at ETH Technical University in Zurich in 1982 and since then he has been working in the IBM Research Laboratory in Rüschlikon, near Zurich. In 1987 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics, together with Prof. Karl Alexander Müller, for pioneering work on supraconductivity in ceramic materials. Dr. Bednorz has been awarded honorary doctorates from the Universities of Salzburg, Regensburg, Tbilisi and Katowice.
